What makes a good smartphone camera? Most of the people think that more megapixel means better camera, Isn’t it?


Megapixel didn’t mean everything. For example, a 64 or 108-megapixel camera doesn’t mean it’s better than 12 Megapixel Camera. Apple and Google make the best camera in smartphone industries. They used 12-megapixel sensors on the rare camera of the smartphone.

If we talking about a typical 12-megapixel camera that has 40323024 Resolution that means 12,192,768 pixels, On the other hand in 108 megapixels, it has 120329024 pixels which are multiplied to 108,567,768 Pixels. 12 Megapixel is the optimum number of smartphone cameras.

The sensor is the most important part of the camera. There are so many different sensors. For example Big sensor, Small sensor, Good or bad sensor.

A large sensor camera is performing better than a small sensor camera. The sensor is a piece of hardware responsible for turning all the light hits it into an electrical signal and produce a grid of pixels.

Here is the point that Larger sensor gives larger pixels and its individual pixels are larger than a small sensor camera. But in the smartphone, The camera sensor is all pretty tiny.
So that it can not perform like a big sensor camera.


Now let’s talk about the Aperture, Smartphone cameras are all fixed aperture lenses and the bigger is better. Because the more light you can let in.
The best smartphone camera is now f/2.0 some times it has f/1.9, f/1.8 and f/1.7.


Let’s go to stabilization, There are two different kinds of stabilization, Software stabilization, and Hardware stabilization. Software stabilization EIS ( Electronic Image Stabilization ) is not much good compare to OIS. It helps to improve minor handshake.

But Hardware stabilization OIS ( Optical image stabilization ) is Awesome pretty much all the time. It is much better for having longer exposure and having shaky hands can still produce very sharp images. And is better for low light.

Not Every phone has OIS and not all the sensor is capable of OIS.

Post Processing

Every smartphone camera process the images that come from a sensor are a little bit differently. Some do more sharper and some do less, Some do more noise reduction, some produce cooler color and some are warmer.

Some do more saturated and some are less. Some keep it bright exposure and some keep it underexposure. But Photos are all subjective. Some smartphone photos are produced more accurate photos and some are not but also more pleasant to the Eye photo.
